What is IV Therapy?

IV therapy is a method of delivering nutrients to the body, with maximum absorption and efficacy. IV refers to intravenous as it is delivered through the veins. When we think of IV therapy, our mind often goes to emergency medicine, however, IV therapy is now being used worldwide to alleviate aches and pains, provide wellness and antiaging benefits, to boost immunity, to detoxify the body and even to alleviate soreness or get rid of a hangover!

At Elixir, IV therapy is administered by trained professionals – our doctors and nurses, who can consult with you and tailor an elixir that’s just right for you.

Common Uses of Elixir’s IV Therapies

Here are some of the pain points our IV therapies are ideal for:

In today’s day and age, we are exposed to pollutants and toxins daily. Our Elixir’s are aimed at detoxification and holistic wellness. They are amazing at reducing inflammation in the body and flushing out toxins and pollutants all around.

Our immune system works hard to fight off infections and keep us well, but we can still get sick. Our Immune therapy IV includes several vitamins and minerals and can reduce the chances of catching a bug by naturally boosting the immune system.
Migraines can be completely debilitating and make it hard to function. While the best way to prevent headaches is to understand what triggers them and avoid the triggers, however, this is not always possible. IV therapy including vitamins can reduce inflammation and alleviate pain and symptoms. The nausea associated with migraines can also be alleviated through a customized IV therapy.
IV Therapy can offer relief from the symptoms of cold and flu. It can also boost the immune system to help fight infections faster. The anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea properties of certain IVs can help too. Plus, since hydration is key, the hydration elixir is apt.
Avoid spending the day feeling awful with a headache or even a hangover. The dry mouth, pounding headache and upset tummy that follows a night out are all symptoms that can be painlessly and quickly alleviated with IV therapy. A hangover therapy elixir helps you rehydrate, restores the balance of electrolytes in the body, detoxes the system and improves energy levels. It also relieves the pain of nausea, heartburn and headache.
Perfect for sore muscles and tired bodies, our recovery Elixir can be used post a workout to help athletes recover, reduce lactic acid build up, improve energy levels and aid in tissue recovery (while helping minimize tissue damage in the body). The fluids are perfect for rehydration while antioxidants and amino acids help improve energy levels and repair any tissue damage.
Dehydration, nausea, fatigue and stomach upset are all a common part of pregnancy. However, you don’t have to suffer through the discomfort when there is an easy fix. Our pregnancy IV drip is customized to reduce nausea and morning sickness, settle heartburn and improve your mood and energy level!
Our Jetlag elixir works well before or after a flight. The vitamins and minerals we use boost immunity to fight off anything you may pick up on board. They also boost energy level, while infusing amino acids that help you sleep better!

How we work

Common Nutrients used in our Elixir’s

Here are some common ingredients that you will find in our Elixir’s:
IV fluids combine sodium chloride and sterile water. This is used to:
  • Rehydrate the body, which is about 60% water.
  • Provide electrolytes, which have several roles in the body including the maintenance of blood pressure and nervous and muscular system support.
  • Prevent dehydration. Dehydration upsets the body’s balance of water and electrolytes and IV fluids restores that balance. Dehydration has physical and mental health effects including being unable to focus, confusion and achy joints.
  • Saline helps the body absorb other nutrients.
  • 0.9% sodium chloride is considered an isotonic solution. It maintains the salt to water ratio in the blood and helps keep the fluid balance.
Vitamin B Complex is a building block of the body. It consists of B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (panthothenic acid) and B6 (pyridoxine).
  • The B complex works together to supply energy to the body.
  • They help maintain optimal cellular health, brain and nerve function, muscle tone, eyesight and tons of other bodily functions.
  • These are water soluble vitamins that help reduce stress – this includes signs of aging. So it helps reduce wrinkles and less firm skin.
  • B complex is highly recommended for pregnancy woman to take, as it helps prevent birth defects in babies.
  • B1 helps provide the body with cellular energy.
  • B2 promotes red blood cell production.
  • B3 repairs DNA, neutralizes free radicals and helps with cellular metabolism.
  • B5 assists in fat breakdown.
  • B6 produces hemoglobin that transports oxygen around the body in our red blood cells

This Vitamin (also called cyanocobalamin) tends to be assimilated through animal products, so those who eat plant-based diets or are vegetarian tend to be deficient and often need B12 supplementation.

  • Vitamin B12 is essential for energy, red blood cell production and healthy neurological and central nervous system function.
  • B12 also supports a healthy immunity by helping create red blood cells.
  • A B12 deficiency leads to fatigue or anemia and can affect memory and dementia or even depression.
  • Like B complex, B12 helps guard against birth defects when take in pregnancy.
  • Some studies show that B12 contributes to healthier bones and thus reduces the likelihood of osteoporosis or macular degeneration.

Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid is known for fighting colds, but it’s great at so much more than that and is now even accepted as a superfood skin ingredient.

  • Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radical damage caused by pollution, smoke, sunlight and other environmental factors.
  • This vitamin also aids in iron absorption and collagen production. This helps heal the skin and also pushes off signs of aging.
  • Vitamin C is essential for immune system support. It will help fight off an infection and also will reduce the duration of an illness.
  • Vitamin C has also been shown, in some studies, to boost cardiac health, reduce LDL cholesterol and lower blood pressure levels.
  • Long term use of Vitamin C also guards against cognitive issues.
Vitamin D is assimilated by the sun, but in Indian skin, due to our higher melanin levels, this tends to be deficient. Our body needs it for a variety of reasons.
  • Vitamin D is essential for bone health, our immune system, mood elevation, the functioning of our cardiovascular systems and for digestive health too.
  • A deficiency of Vitamin D leads to aches and pains in your body specially in your bones and muscles.

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that reduces the damage caused to our body by the environment and to reduce oxidative stress on the body.

  • Glutathione is known to reduce inflammation from autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
  • It was originally known to help the liver health by naturally detoxing the body and clearing fats; however, its use over time has proven many uses and benefits beyond just detoxification.
  • Glutathione plays a role in immune system support and DNA creation amongst other things.
  • It is being used in patients with Polycystic ovarian syndrome due to its ability to increase insulin sensitivity, and it has also been found to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
  • Beyond this, glutathione has a ton of beauty benefits too and can reduce dark spots in complexion, reduce wrinkles and improve the elasticity of the skin. It is also known for its’ skin brightening effects.

Amino acids are a group of organic compounds that form the building blocks of proteins that make up 75% of the body function.

  • Amino acids determine and control a lot of functions in our body including growth and repair, healing, normal digestion, regulating moods by producing hormones, producing neurotransmitters, assisting in the creation of muscles and connective tissues, and lots more.
  • A balance of amino acids is required for our health and wellbeing. Our body does not store these, so it must be ingested or produced daily, otherwise the proteins in our muscles start to degrade.
  • Top athletic performance relies on proteins to help maintain muscle and tissue strength.  Studies suggest that amino acids enhance the body’s endurance and capacity for exercise. Amino acids may modify athletic performance in several ways, including increase the amount of energy anabolic hormones available in the body to boost metabolism, changing the way the body utilizes energy during exercise and delaying the onset of mental and physical fatigue by altering the rate at which serotonin is created.
  • Amino acids have different uses and trypotophan for example is responsible for making you feel full when you eat too much. It is used in our jetlag elixir to help you sleep naturally without the calories of overeating.
  • Taurine is another important amino acid which regulates immune function, supports muscle growth and development, regulates anti-inflammatory function, maintains electrolyte function and balance, and maintains metabolic function.  A taurine deficiency is characterized by anxiety, depression, weight gain and kidney problems.
Magnesium is a mineral that is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions and enzyme systems that regulate various functions in the body. It is found in many types of food, and is considered a macronutrient which means that we need a substantial amount of it every day (generally, at least 100mg).
  • Healthy levels of magnesium maintain nerve and muscle function, maintains bone strength, provides immune system support, regulates heartbeat, regulates blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, regulates blood pressure, boosts energy levels and aids in the production of proteins.
  • Magnesium has been proven to prevent migraine headaches and to dissipate them when they do appear.
  • Low levels of magnesium can cause a variety of symptoms including cramps, muscle weakness, mood swings, or numbness, and even depression.
  • Athletes with low levels of magnesium in the body can benefit from supplementation to improve muscle function, energy production and boost physical performance too.
  • Studies show that magnesium could lower the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
  • Magnesium is essential for strong bones. Not only does
  • IV therapy can quickly and effectively correct the level of magnesium in the body and prevent any complications caused by deficiency.
Zinc is known to ease cold symptoms, but it has several other uses too.
  • Like glutathione and Vitamin C, zinc has antioxidant capabilities that lowers our disease risk by diminishing the oxidative stress in the body caused by free radicals (often a result of our environment).
  • Low Zinc levels can increase the likelihood of certain medical conditions and even fertility problems in men.
  • Proper zinc consumption is particularly important in pregnant women to ensure healthy development of their babies.
  • Zinc is typically consumed in foods such as fish, beans and meat. A zinc deficiency can be caused by diseases such as diabetes and cancer.
Toradol is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory NSAID which is designed to relieve severe pain.
  • It is non-addictive and non-narotic.
  • Toradol is meant for short term use.
  • Toradol decreases prostaglandin, which inflames tissue at the site of any pain.
Ondanesetron is known to prevent nausea and vomiting.
  • This is an ideal addition to the drip for people who have any nausea or vomiting due to pain, surgery, extreme morning sickness, or even chemotherapy.
  • Ondanesetrons like Zofran are often prescribed to women with severe morning sickness that cannot be reduced with other therapies.
